What is Give Big?
Tuesday April 26th -one day only- is a huge local fundraiser with incentives and prizes for local non profits. Specifically for us, it is the big chance to raise funds to buy our organic farmland. Currently, we farm 400 acres and own 240. As the farm is the foundation of our daily life, our rhythm, activities, food, and lifestyle, and is a large part of the sustainable economy of this non-profit, it is important we secure it, for the people here now and for those in the future. On Tuesday we have a matching grant so we can double your money! There is also a $1000 prize for the non-profit that has the most unique donors on the day. We'd love to pick that up and turn it into half an acre of rich, organic, farm land!
So please join us.
When you buy from us you support our economy. Join the CSA, buy bread and cookies, look for our crafts. It all sustains the life and programs here.
Every dollar you donate goes directly to Community Homestead and builds the community. Come see your dollar at work right here! We appreciate donations of In kind equipment, $ through your company’s matching plan, or when you write in Community Homestead for your United Way grantee.
Current Focus on Farmland
In 2011, 80 acres of our organic farmland came up for sale. With the amazing support of the Otto Bremer Foundation who inspired us with a $100,000 matching grant, together with significant help from Fred C and Katharine B. Andersen Foundation, and the robust and incredible help from many, many, individuals, we bought this land in 2014.
Deeply appreciative of this 80 acres, we are determined not to be caught off guard and scrambling for a loan and luck next time our farmland comes up for sale. With the economy turning and development once again possible, we need to make sure we are ready with a sturdy down payment to secure the farm, and the community for the future.
